If you have a pool and are looking to throw a pool party sometime soon (hint: a &#8220;start of summer&#8221; pool party is always a great idea!),&nbsp;pay close attention to these tips!
<p />Have good food: This step does not mean that you have to buy a whole bunch of food yourself; if people are coming over for a pool party, provide some drinks and snacks (chips, candy, et cetera) yourself, and tell everyone else to pitch in for some meat. Everyone can spend some time pitching in on the grilling (unless you want to do it all yourself), and everyone can continue to munch on food throughout the afternoon and evening; who knows, if things go just right, you might end up with some leftover food to keep in your fridge for the rest of the week!

<p />Has your child gained some weight lately, but you&#8217;re not sure exactly what to do about it? Exchange some of their unhealthy snack foods with these healthy snacks and see if that doesn&#8217;t make a difference.
<p />Begin with introducing all kinds of fresh fruit. Bring home new fruit and have fruit taste testing events where your kids try a few different types of fruit and vote on which one they like best. Offer both new and unusual fruits alongside the common options.
<p />Get an air popcorn popper and show your kids how much fun it is to pop and eat, even without the butter. Instead spray with a tiny bit of water and then salt it. For a sweet variation, drizzle low-cal maple syrup and toss for a caramel corn substitute.
<p />Get a bag of those pretzel thins and top with slivers of cheese. Try using a strong-flavored cheese so you won&#8217;t need much to flavor the pretzels.
<p />Cook up some hard boiled eggs. Kids love to peel the eggs, and the protein will keep them full for a long time. Serve them with salt and pepper.
<p />Make your kids some ants on a log. Spread a modest amount of peanut butter on celery sticks and then place raisins or minitaure chocolate chips on top (which are the ants).
<p />Baby carrots with light salad dressing. Older kids may like to use a knife to carve the veggies into flowers and shapes.
<p />Try seasoned, cooked shrimp. Just pour some cajun seasoning into a pot with some hot water and boil the shrimp until done; it&#8217;s a perfectly delicious high protein snack.
<p />Offer fancy rolls of cold cuts and cheese. Buy lean ham or turkey, and roll it up with thin slices of cheese and secure with toothpicks so it looks special.
<p />Fruit smoothies. Make a smoothie from frozen fruit (peaches, raspberries, mango, blueberries) and low calorie juices; blend until frosty but smooth. Feel free to add yogurt if your kids like them tangy and creamy.
<p />Greek yogurt. With double the protein and no fat, this snack is a winner for everyone, kids and adults alike. It comes in all kinds of flavors&#8211;even honey and chocolate!

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are two islands off the coast of the Cape of Massachusetts that are both full of beauty, stories, and immense social appeal;&nbsp;the island that you hear about more often is Martha&#8217;s Vineyard, as Martha&#8217;s Vineyard is a common vacation destination for people across the country, but the other island &ndash; which is even more exclusive &ndash; is Nantucket. Because of the fact that Nantucket tries to separate itself from the &#8220;touristy&#8221; feel, and because of the fact that Nantucket is more expensive to travel to and to stay on,&nbsp;many people are more likely to visit Martha&#8217;s Vineyard of the two &ndash; but if you are wanting to experience a beautiful island that remains unpolluted by the advances of society, Nantucket is just the right place for you.
<p />Traveling to Nantucket is one of the most difficult parts of enjoying a vacation on the island, as it is inaccessible by road; of course, the first option for visiting Nantucket is to go there by plane, but if you decide to take this route, you should realize that you will be paying a good deal of money for a short flight, and will then be stuck paying a good deal of money for transportation on the island as well.

<p />If you are going to the island alone, taking a plane is just fine, but if you are going as a family you can actually save money by loading your car onto the ferry; it costs around $400 to take your car on the ferry, but when you compare this to the price of plane tickets for several people, this is actually a great deal!
<p />And you will want to make sure you are able to make your way around the island once you arrive; of course, if you take the ferry with your car, you will be all set, but if you take the plane, or if you go on the ferry without your car, one of the best options (that is, if you don&#8217;t mind a bit of exercise!) is to rent a bicycle &ndash; which gives you the perfect opportunity to see all of Nantucket with the open ocean air accompanying you at all times!

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you have a child who is enjoying summer between two years of high school, you understand that most high school students think that summer is a time for them to hang out, have no responsibilities, and do whatever they want &#8211; and while this might have been the case when they were in elementary school and middle school, it should not be the case any longer! For any high school student who wants to go to college, the preparation for this goal should begin early on in the high school career, and one of the best times for the preparation to take place is during the summer; help lead your high schooler toward these &#8220;assignments,&#8221; and the payoff in the future will be well worth the effort.
<p />The scores students received on the standardized tests (the SAT and the ACT) is the biggest thing that colleges look at when deciding who to accept and not accept, and in order for a student to do well on these tests, they have to study &#8211; and of course, there is no better time for them to get in a few hours of study each week than the summer!

<p />Another thing that colleges will especially pay close attention to (one of the things that can push a decent college application to &#8220;good,&#8221; and can push a good college application to &#8220;great&#8221;) is the amount of extracurricular activity a student participated in during high school &#8211; especially in the way of volunteering; encourage your son or daughter to volunteer in a charity or other program a couple hours a week during the summer, and they will benefit in so many ways!
<p />And finally, the responsibility of having a job will do plenty to prepare your child for life after high school -&nbsp;and having a bit of extra money in their pocket will not feel too shabby either!
<p />The word &#8220;assignment&#8221; will probably not get you very far in presenting these ideas to your high schooler,&nbsp;but come up with an approach that will work on them, and nudge them toward using their summer in a wise and productive manner.
